Types and Advantages and Disadvantages of Floor Drains (Part 1)

Jul 20, 2022

1. Shallow water seal floor drain: Shallow water seal floor drain has a long history. Its major defect is that if it is not used for a few days, the odor and pests of the sewer pipe will drive straight into the shallow water seal because the water trap does not store water. It needs to be used frequently or not. The stored water is easy to dry up, and the high floor drainage pressure will cause the water seal to damage the shallow water seal. The floor drain has gradually been covered.

2. Deep water seal floor drain: In order to overcome the above drawbacks, some manufacturers increase the water seal to about 7-8cm, and use quartz sand for testing, which shows that the water flow is very fast, and the sand can be flushed out without clogging, but the actual Situation There is very little sand in the bathroom. Sewage contains a lot of sticky impurities. The deeper the water seal is, the larger the adhesion area between hair and these sticky impurities is. It hangs at the bottom of the trap and cannot be cleaned. After a period of time, the water passage will become more and more narrow. Poor drainage; at the same time, the overall height of the floor drain increases, which makes it impossible to install many places where the pipeline is shallow, so when buying a floor drain, it is also important to see whether the height of the drainage pipe can be installed with an extended floor drain.

3. Wide-mouth water-sealed floor drain: Wide-mouth water-sealed floor drain is an upgraded version of deep water-sealed floor drain. The drain outlet of this wide-mouth water-sealed floor drain is designed with a single drain outlet, which can achieve fast drainage without clogging, and the water seal can block 100% and deodorize. Insect proof. At present, the price of this kind of floor drain is higher.

Advantages: Can effectively deodorize for a long time Disadvantages: There are few products on it, and the price is expensive

4. The water-sealed floor drain with the buckle cup: The principle of the floor drain with the buckle cup is that a piece protrudes from the back of the cover and the inside of the floor drain body forms a water seal to deodorize. However, because the water seal is very shallow, the effective water seal that really works is only about half a centimeter. As long as the toilet upstairs is flushed, the positive and negative pressure in the pipe will destroy the water in the floor drain. The odor can enter the room unimpeded, and this kind of floor drain cannot effectively deodorize. And because of its own design flaws, the floor drain is easy to block and drains very slowly.

Disadvantages: This kind of water-sealed floor drain cannot effectively deodorize, and it is easy to block and drain slowly. Pros: Cheaper.
