One of the main festivals of Islam. Together with Eid al-Adha, it is known as the two major festivals of Islam. A free translation of the Arabic "De Fetour". In Persian it is called "Ruzzi" (Ruzi). Adult Muslims, male and female, fast for one month in September each year of the Islamic calendar (commonly known as "Ramadan"), and every day from before dawn to sunset, they abstain from eating, drinking, sexual intercourse and all indecent behaviors, so as to examine themselves and wash away their sins. According to Muhammad's instruction on "fasting at the new moon, breaking the fast at the new moon", Ramadan begins with the appearance of the new moon in early September of the Islamic calendar and ends when the new moon is seen in early October of the Islamic calendar.
