Looking back a few decades, plastic piping has quickly become the preferred choice for a variety of plumbing applications. Polyvinyl chloride is one of the major varieties of plastic pipes and fittings.
In addition, there are different variants of PVC pipes, of which CPVC and UPVC are the two most widely used plastic pipes. While all variants of PVC pipes inherit the excellent properties of PVC material, the unique manufacturing process of different types of PVC material also results in some unique properties.

UPVC Pipe
UPVC or unplasticized polyvinyl chloride is a type of polyvinyl chloride to which no plasticizer is added. It is a rigid material suitable for a variety of applications. Generally, plasticizers are added to soften the otherwise hard PVC material. Because no plasticizers are added, UPVC is a significantly harder type of PVC pipe.
The following are some of the characteristics of UPVC pipe:
Lightweight and strong
Compared to metal, concrete and other plastic pipes, UPVC pipes are extremely lightweight. But don't let the light weight fool you, these pipes are quite strong and can withstand pressure.
UV Resistant
These pipes are protected against damage from harmful UV rays, making them suitable for outdoor use as well.
Chemically Inert
These pipes are chemically inert, which means that they don't react with chemicals, making them ideal for transporting chemical effluents in industries.
Corrosion Resistant
CPVC pipes are corrosion resistant and will not rust for decades.
Lead Free
Since these pipes are not plasticized, they do not contain lead and are known as "green" pipes.
Highly Durable
Finally, UPVC pipes are highly durable as they have a hard rigid structure. This is the reason why these pipes are used for windows and doors.
