So what is pipeline corrosion and how can we best avoid it? Corrosion is a term we use to refer to the oxidation process of certain materials. Oxidation is a natural reaction that can cause materials to lose electrons and ultimately lead to electromagnetic breakdown, preferably identified by the color of rust. In short, this means that the cause of pipeline corrosion is natural and a part of the normal process in the world.

Different types of pipeline corrosion
Although the core of corrosion almost always reacts to the Autoxidation process, this does not mean that the trigger factors are always the same. Understanding the causes of corrosion is crucial for its treatment, which is why we classify different types of pipeline corrosion based on their causes:
1. Pipeline failure
Pipeline failures are interesting because depending on the specific situation, they can be both the cause and symptoms of corrosion. A single pinhole leak may cause water to slowly drip out and begin to corrode the structure. But sometimes the original leakage may also be the result of existing corrosion. Inspect the pipeline to evaluate the situation, and then treat it like any other leaks.
2. Pipeline maintenance
This mainly occurs in pipelines that have not been evaluated for a long time. Corrosion can spread to the entire pipeline, or even to multiple pipelines, which requires immediate repair, otherwise it may lead to complete failure of the pipeline system.
3. Pipe thread leakage
Since threads are one of the most likely points for leakage, and some connections are metal to metal, it is not surprising that corrosion is so common in threads. Repairing may be a lengthy process, but with the correct use of epoxy resin, it can be resolved.
4. Faults caused by current
This type of corrosion occurs when different metals come into contact with each other. This will accelerate the natural rate of oxidation, which is very dangerous to the integrity of the system.
5. Weathering damage
Damage caused by snow, rain, and other atmospheric conditions can weaken the structure and accelerate corrosion. Maintenance is the key to avoiding its spread.
6. Corrosion under insulation layer
If the insulation of the pipeline is insufficient, it may cause the fluid it carries to corrode the pipeline, thus the importance of quality control.
7. Microbial corrosion
Also known as Microbial Impact Corrosion (MIC), certain microbial agents may cause accelerated corrosion of the entire pipeline system within a few years. If detected, it is crucial to clean the entire system as soon as possible.
8. Seamed pipeline failure
Lack of joints may lead to corrosion of the trigger tube. Incomplete sealing can cause rust to accumulate at the joints, ultimately leading to joint collapse.
9. Copper tube corrosion
Although copper has corrosion resistance, it cannot be spared. Improper changes in pH value, voltage, or grounding may lead to corrosion of copper pipes.


How to eliminate pipeline corrosion in industrial processing applications?
The key to eliminating corrosion in industrial applications is very simple. As we mentioned above, corrosion is caused by Autoxidation of some materials due to their reaction to the fluid they carry. Therefore, the solution relies on materials that do not corrode or at least have high corrosion resistance.
