Step 1 (optional): If your facility is experiencing drain clogs and backflow issues, we recommend using a drain jet to clear your pipes. Our drain filters are a preventative product, but they will not remove existing foreign material or debris from your pipes. Jetting your drains will give your pipes a new look, while drain filters will help prevent clogs.

Step 2: When you are ready to install, remove the drain cover or grille. This may require a screwdriver. Be sure to keep the screws in a safe place so you don't lose them.

Step 3: Make sure you choose the right size drain strainer. (Measure before buying.) Most drains come in 2-, 3-, or 4-inch diameters. 3.5- and 6-inch drains are also available. Our drain strainers are either tapered or have lipped edges so that they are wider at the top and don't fall into the pipe. For example, our 4-inch strainer measures 4.5 inches at the top so it can fit in a 4-inch drain pipe.

Step 4: If there is buildup on the drain walls, you may need to clean the drain. Cleaning the drain walls will allow for a better fit for the filter and help eliminate breeding grounds for fruit flies.

Step 5: Insert the IFAN floor drain filter into the drain.

Step 6: Replace the drain grate/cover onto the drain.

Step 7: Check the drain frequently to see how quickly the filter becomes clogged. The time it takes to fill the filter depends on the amount of debris that flows into the drain. So it may take a day or it may take several months. Once you determine how often you need to "fill up," document it in your facility's routine maintenance schedule.
